Who writes on tb1648.com

The editorial content on tb1648.com is produced by the in-house editorial team of TB-1648 and the technical expertise of our industrial subsidiary, Générale de Découpage (GDD), based in Thiers. The content you read here is not written by anonymous service providers: each article is written and then reviewed by individuals directly involved in the design, manufacturing, and selection of our products.

Our editorial guarantor is Stéphane Guillaumont, President of GDD. In this capacity, he ensures coherence between the content published on this site and the reality of our industrial expertise. For strategic topics (vision, heritage, positions), he directly signs the articles; for other topics, he validates technical compliance upstream.

Our legitimacy

TB-1648 is one of the oldest French cutlery houses still in operation. Our founding date, engraved in the brand name, dates back to 1648 — more than three and a half centuries of passing on the craft in Thiers, the historic capital of French cutlery.

We are members of the Hénokiens, an international association that exclusively brings together bicentennial family businesses that have maintained the continuity of their activity and their shareholding. This affiliation is one of the most demanding markers of authenticity in our sector — fewer than fifty companies worldwide are listed.

Our industrial subsidiary GDD is certified ISO 9001 (quality management) and ISO 14001 (environmental management). It also holds the Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant (EPV) label, awarded by the French state to companies possessing rare, recognized, and transmitted savoir-faire over several generations.

How we work

Our editorial process is based on three intangible principles.

No unsubstantiated claims. The technical characteristics mentioned in our content — HRC hardness of a blade, exact nature of steel, composition of a handle, duration and scope of a guarantee — correspond to verifiable data provided by our GDD technical department. If we are not sure about information, we do not write it.

No approximations about origins. Our kitchen knives and pocket knives are manufactured in our workshop in Thiers, under the direct responsibility of GDD. Our cutlery, canteen sets, and the Laguiole Héritage® range are designed in France and produced by selected partners according to strict criteria of quality, certifications, and cutlery tradition. This distinction is respected in all our content: none of our articles suggests that a product is made in Thiers if it is not.

Internal validation before publication. Technically or strategically significant topics are reviewed by the management team. Educational content is validated by internal technical sources — GDD workshop for manufacturing and steel questions, product team for usage and table art questions.

Our topics

We cover four areas:

  • Kitchen knives, from chef's slicers to Damascus steel blades;
  • Table cutlery, including our Expression range, the Intuition model, and designer canteen sets;
  • Tableware as a whole — choosing a knife, maintenance, pairing with culinary uses;
  • French cutlery heritage — Thiers, Laguiole Héritage®, ancient techniques and their contemporary evolutions.

Our perspective is not that of a general retailer: we write from our actual value chain, from raw steel to finished product.
